SEL School Literacy Workshop Read-Aloud
Empower Literacy Leaders of Tomorrow
Service Description
Author Jennifer Lyle brings her magical middle-grade novel Koa and the Kingdom of Hidden Secrets to life through an engaging read-aloud and confidence-building workshop designed for 4th–7th grade students. With a background in both education and theater, Jennifer leads students through an immersive storytelling experience that combines live performance with social-emotional learning. She is joined by college students with theater experience who help animate the characters and scenes, making the story feel vibrant, relatable, and fun. The session begins with a read-aloud of Chapter 1, followed by interactive activities such as creating a “confidence emoji,” writing personal affirmations, and drawing scenes from the book. These exercises help students build emotional resilience, express themselves creatively, and develop a deeper connection to reading. This workshop is ideal for classrooms, school libraries, and after-school programs looking to support literacy, confidence, and student voice. Students leave feeling inspired, not just to read more, but to believe in themselves. Optional add-ons include book giveaways, take-home activities, and a pie tasting inspired by the story.
